Only the penitent shall pass...
The soundtrack is fascinating and immersive from the very beginning. The music of Albero creates an atmosphere reminiscent of sensations from the “Firelink Shrine” in Dark Souls but based in the south of Spain.
The animated scenes are unsettling but very interesting and elaborate, I think they contribute a lot to the game’s atmosphere.
I really liked the Spanish voices, mixing the Andalusian accent with a more generic Spanish.
An interesting interpretation of Spanish religious folklore. Symbolism such as the “Prie Dieu” being a resting and respawn point, rosary beads improving our character, or fervor allowing the use of prayers is masterfully integrated into the core mechanics of the game.
Interesting bosses with very different mechanics. There are optional bosses if you’re not a completionist.
The difficulty of some areas and especially of some optional bosses is high, but just right as it doesn’t become frustrating. In a short time, you find their weaknesses and improve your skills to defeat them.
The different mechanics and power-ups are spectacular, there is a wide variety of items and possibilities to customize the control and abilities of our character.
Lots of secrets and collectibles. Each ítem is linked to lore stories, very much in the style of items in the Souls series.
When interacting with some NPCs, you have to exit and re-enter the scene to see their new state.
I miss having a button to run and move faster (although later on you get a rosary ítem to speed this up).
There is a room where it feels like we can do something, that there’s a secret, but it’s only possible in NG+ mode.
